Online Education

How Do the Classes Work?

Northwest Home and Building Inspectors Association leads the way with online classrooms via Zoom’s free tool (https://zoom.us/). All online presentations have a dedicated Admin to allow questions and support throughout the presentation. Simply utilize the chat feature to submit your request.

Users who infrequently use Zoom may encounter required updates when logging in after a prolonged period of inactivity. To ensure this does not impede your timely participation, we advise every participant to log in early to ensure the Zoom tool they currently use is ready to engage.

Online class note taking

How Long Are They?

To minimize the time needed to complete your education credits, NWHBIA education sessions are typically 2-hour installments. Remember, this means that 4-hour classes require you to return for the conclusion or part 2. NO CE credit can be earned for those entering for the first time past the 20-minute mark of the first hour of class. No exceptions.

Unfamiliar with the Zoom online meeting tool? You do not need a Zoom account to attend a Zoom meeting or interview. You will be prompted to download the software after clicking the link provided in your email. You may also wish to create an account, but that is not required to participate in a Zoom meeting. As a student, utilizing your access code and password will never require a purchase.

Unleash YOUR LEARNING

Tips for Taking Online Classes

Treat It Like a Real Course

Approach your online course with the same level of commitment as an in-person class. Arrive on time, stay engaged throughout, and create a distraction-free environment. To comply with WA DOL requirements, students must keep their cameras on for the entire presentation with their identifiable face clearly visible.

Accountability and Roll Calls

During each course, three roll calls will occur—once at the start of class, once after the scheduled break, and once at the conclusion. Students must reply in the Zoom chat with their first and last name as used during enrollment. All sessions are recorded to ensure accuracy, transparency, and compliance with WA DOL standards.

Time Management and Course Pace

Our courses are designed to begin and end as scheduled, so it’s important to manage your time effectively. Be prepared to start promptly and stay for the full duration of the class. Having your materials ready ahead of time and minimizing distractions will help you keep pace and get the most from your learning experience.

Active Participation and Follow-Up

Use the Zoom chat to share your thoughts, ask questions, and contribute to discussions. After successful completion, eligible students will receive their certificate of completion within three days. To ensure timely delivery, please add nwhbia@gmail.com
to your contacts so important updates and certificates don’t end up in your spam folder.
